Michael D. Carlson, 55, of Belvidere, died peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 23, 2014 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born March 5, 1958 in Belvidere; the son of Ronald A. and Shirley (Johanningsmeier) Carlson. Mike graduated from Belvidere High School, class of 1976. He worked 17 years as a mechanic for Nissan. He later worked as the Housekeeping Supervisor for Amberwood Nursing Home before he became disabled. Mike married Barbara Wienk in Belvidere on July 12, 1980. He as a member of Evangelical Covenant and a board member of His Glory Belvidere Mission. Mike was an avid NASCAR fanatic. He enjoyed 1970's cars, home improvement, his family and helping those in need. Mike is survived by his wife, Barbara; 2 daughters, Andrea (Travis) Hazard, of Stanley, WI and Jaclyn (Terry McMurray) Carlson, of Belvidere; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Carlson, Josh Hazard, Jacob Hazard, Mya Carlson, Blake Carlson, Hannah Hazard; Mother, Shirley McKenzie; 4 sisters, Debbie (Joe) Stassi, Rhonda Walters, Cindy Saunders, Valerie Gunn; Mother-in-law, Clara Wienk; 3 sisters-in-law, Cheryl and George Greenlee; Becky and Paul Pearce, Lu and Gene Franseen; 3 brothers-in-law, Ken Wienk, Bruce Wienk and Jon Wienk and a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Carlson, his father, Ronald and several other loved family members.

Celebration of Life 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel 218 W. Hurlbut Av. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a memorial fund to be established at a later date. Burial will be at a later date.
