Mike Barnett, 63, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Alden Debes Nursing Home in Rockford, after a courageous battle with lung disease. He was born on November 9, 1954 in Sycamore, IL, to Edith and Chester Barnett. Mike graduated from Hampshire High School in 1973. He married Mary Frances Andrews on June 8, 1974. They had one child.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Edith and Chester Barnett, his wife, Mary Frances Barnett, and his daughter, Mary Edith Barnett.

He is survived by 3 sisters, Brenda (Richard) Retzlaff, Tomahawk, WI, Beverly (Kerry) Piatt, Woodruff, WI, and Judy Colson, Sheboygan, WI, 5 stepchildren, Adina Vowels, Oregon, David Vowels, Mitchell (Jade) Vowels, Rockford, Rhena (Kevin) Smith of Yorkville, Lucas Vowels of Belvidere, and 9 grandchildren. He was also a loving father figure to Dixie Pekko and was "Uncle Mike" to her 2 children.

Mike was employed as a large equipment mechanic/operator/engineer at Behr for 17 years, and retired 2 years ago.

Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking, and working in his house and yard.

The family is grateful for the comforting care provided by Heartland Hospice. Mike was a collector of hugs. In Mike's honor, please hug someone you love.

Cremation took place at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, Belvidere.

According to Mike's wishes, no formal services will be held.
