Obituary

Merry Kathleen Strandberg (Sellers), 80, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in Belvidere, IL. Merry was born July 10, 1944, to Helen Kathren (Hoage) and Clarence Wilber "Barney" Sellers. She was tiny, but strong, and walked at the age of one. When she was 15 months old, Merry contracted Polio, and after a long hospitalization, her legs and feet were still so affected that doctors thought she would be an invalid. Merry proved them wrong. She had surgeries to move muscle from one side of her leg to another, and multiple surgeries over the years to try and straighten and lengthen her legs and ankles. With determination, perseverance, and her parents' encouragement, Merry didn't listen to those who told her what she wouldn't be able to do, but showed everyone what she could do. She walked with crutches sooner than expected, her tiny legs propelled her on a pedal-adjusted bicycle, and when she passed her driver's test, she drove her white Chevy Bel Air, 2-door, Convertible.

Merry attended Washington Elementary School, and at this time, Merry started piano lessons. She performed difficult classical pieces, including Clair de Lune by Debussy, which has always been her signature song, and she also mastered popular music. Merry memorized and performed in recitals and competitions. Merry graduated from Washington Jr. High in May 1958, and Belvidere High School in 1962. On April 20, 1963, Merry Kathleen Sellers married her forever love, David Arthur Strandberg, at the United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL. On May 5, 1965, Merry and David were blessed with their son, David Christopher Strandberg. David and Merry were planning a trip to Hawaii for their 40th anniversary but had to postpone it. Before they could take the trip, Merry's one true love, David Arthur Strandberg, passed away in 2004.

Playing the piano turned into a business for Merry as she taught lessons while living in Muskego, Wisconsin.  While living in Arizona, Merry earned a certificate in and worked in the Medical Record field. Merry also raised and showed her Yorkie pups. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Merry taught piano again. She registered with the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs as "Miss Merry's Music Makers." It was very special for her when her grandsons started studying piano with her. Merry enjoyed being a member of the Boone County Home Extension's "Farmerettes", especially ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Kettle drive each December with her extension friends.

Merry is survived by her son, David (Christine) Strandberg, and her Grandsons, Myles Rosengren Strandberg and Gustav Joseph Strandberg. She is also survived by her Sister-in-Law, Shirley Jeanne Sellers, nieces and nephews, Randall (Linda) Sellers, Julie (David) Claeyssens, Christine (Chuck) Gilles, Sue (Jerry )Bender, Mike (Dianne) Muldoon, Robyn (Dean) Ekstam, Cherie (Dave) Driefurst, Dawn (Arlo) Vallejo, James (Marilee) Sellers, Lynn Ann (Dave) LaBuy, and Theodore Clarence "Ted" (Julie) Sellers and cousin Sherri Cuccinelli, Also many great nieces and nephews, great-great, nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
