Cherry Valley, ILMelvin E. Blackmer, 86, of Cherry Valley, IL departed his earthly life on November 9, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Born June 12, 1923 in a farm house in Boone County to Jacob and Alfrieda (Peterson) Blackmer. He attended country schools and graduated from Belvidere High School class of 1942. After graduation he worked on a dairy farm for several years. Eventually, he returned to the family farm, where he worked until his retirement in 2004. He loved both the land and cattle alike. All who knew him appreciated his quick witted dry sense of humor which served him until the end. He loved his Chicago Cubs and Bears teams, never missing a game if he could help it. Although he never married, he maintained close ties with his extended family. He enjoyed having visitors; especially when they brought "Good Eats".He is survived by his brother, sister in-law; two nephews, one niece and several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our thanks to Northwoods Care Center personnel and Penny Krieman for all of the loving care.
