Melanie Leigh Mrkvicka, 49, of Rockford, Illinois passed away at her home on Tuesday March 23, 2021. Melanie was born on October 10, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Leon and CinDee (Antas) Mrkvicka. Ever since she was a little girl, Melanie would bring strays home. She rescued many cats over the years. Growing up, she was the only kid who would stay up with Mom and watch The Jerry Lewis Telethon. She enjoyed reading V.C. Andrews books and watching General Hospital. Melanie also liked to play Tetris and Candy Crush.

Melanie is survived by children Joshua Mrkvicka, Matthew "Max" (Andrea Johnson) Mrkvicka, Tyler Powell; siblings Melissa Mrkvicka, Scott (Tiffany) Mrkvicka, Katie (Mike Cullen) Mrkvicka, Alexandria (Bill Lewis) Benson; grandchildren Briar and Maren Mrkvicka; parents CinDee Mrkvicka and Jeff Benson; several nieces and nephews, and special friends Jessica Powell, Tyrese Holt and Shawn Powell. She is preceded in death by her grandma Jean Antas and Larry Powell. A private family service will be held with Pastor Fitz Barclay officiating.
