Max E. Dach, 87, of Caledonia, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in O. S. F. St. Anthony Medical Center. Born August 27, 1918 in Rochelle, Illinois to Adam and Emma (Hammond) Dach. Max was a longtime resident in the Boone County area, coming from Rochelle. He married Gertrude Gilchrist in Fairdale, Ill. on August 12, 1945. He was a Farmer and for the last ten years of his career, he worked for the Green Giant Co. located in Belvidere. Max served in the 9th Division, 47th Infantry of the U. S. Army in Africa and Europe. Landing on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion. His military career consisted of action in the European, African and Middle East campaigns during WWII. He the medals he received were, the Purple Heart, twice; the Bronze Star; WWII Victory medal; Good Conduct medal; the American Campaign; American Defense Service and French Liberty Medals. Max was a member of the Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church; the American Legion, Boone Post, #77; the V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser, Belvidere Post #1461 and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Belvidere Lodge #295. In his spare time, he enjoyed stamp collecting. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; of Caledonia; four children, Bradley Max (Marcia) Dach; Lexington, N.C.; Barbara (Bill) Dach-Luther, Greenbelt, MD; Curtis Harley Dach, Sparks, NV; and Nancy Ruth Dach, Plainfield, IL.; a grandson; and two granddaughters; two sisters, Mary Brace, Machesney Park; June Powell, Albuquerque, NM; two, Brothers Carl and Erwin Dach, both of Rockford; Max is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Esther Nyen; Helen Spangler; and two brothers, Walter and Herbert Dach.
