Mary Ellen Turner, 76, of Belvidere, IL, went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2025, at Swedish American Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on November 10, 1948, the daughter of William and Jane (Carter) Bates.
On June 11, 1966, Mary married the love of her life, Alfred "Lee" Turner. Together they shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Tracy, born on March 31, 1968. Mary dedicated over 45 years of her life working as a meat cutter at Highlander/Kroger before retiring in 2009.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin, whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She had a deep love for children and prioritized every moment she could share with them. Known for her warmth and hospitality, she regularly opened her home for family gatherings, where her front porch was always a welcoming place to stop by and say hello. Mary was a proud and long-time member of the "Steam Plant Breakfast Club," a cherished tradition she enjoyed for 45 years. Gathering regularly with close friends, she treasured the friendship, laughter, and stories shared over countless morning meals.
An exceptional cook, Mary especially cherished preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, creating memories that will live on through generations. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Turner, grandchildren Jessica (Cory) Lane, Kyle Luse; great grandchildren, Stella and Weston and Rena Lane; siblings, Nancy Kosar, Bob (Doris) Bates, Bill Bates, Sue (Roger) Haile, Cindy (Charlie) Foster. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members and dear friends whom she loved dearly.
She is welcomed into heaven by her daughter, Tracy Luse-Turner; parents, William and Jane Bates, brother, John Bates and many friends.
Mary's visitation will be Friday, May 23 between the hours of 1-3pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral services to follow at 3pm.
