Mary Ellen Schafman, 85, of Belvidere, Illinois, died peacefully November 27, 2022, at her home in Belvidere. She was born November 25, 1937, in Belvidere, daughter to Peter Vern and Alice M. (Grandadam) Schafman. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1958 and worked as a factory worker in the telecommunications industry. Mary was a life time member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. She loved knitting, crocheting and quilting.  She was very crafty. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time at her sister's lake house and was a remarkable caregiver for her mother and sister, Rita, for many years.

Mary Ellen will be missed by her sisters, Alice Butz, Carol Best, and Joyce Geraci; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Rita Ohlsen, Doris Morrall, Helen Schmidt and Grace Rielly.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. Father Geary will officiate. Burial at St. James Cemetery to follow. In her memory, memorials to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  To share a memory, please visit www.andersonfcs.com
