Mary Lois Hicks, 88, of Belvidere, died peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2012 in Emeritus Care Center. She was born on December 5, 1923 in Marion County, Illinois; the daughter of Nathan and Alice (Halfacre) Fields. Lois was married to Robert H. Hicks in Belvidere on February 14, 1946. She is survived by two daughters, Kathi Spencer of Rockford; and Donna (Tom) Tangman, of Stockbridge, Wisconsin; two sons, Michael Hicks, Rockford, Illinois; and David (Julie) Hicks of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, Stephanie Hamblock of Rockford; Kevin Hicks of Cherry Valley; Katie (Tony) Turner of Bloomington, Illinois; Tom (Hollie) Hicks of St. Peters, MO; and Sarah Spencer of Rockford; and four great-grandchildren ranging from 3 to 13 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and three brothers.Lois was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion Boone Post 77 Auxiliary. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, and traveling throughout North America with her husband, Bob.
