Martin L. Ford, 90 years, 7 months, 12 days, of Belvidere and formerly of Presho, S.D. died Sunday afternoon April 24, 2005 in his home after a lingering illness. Martin was born in Letcher , S.D. the son of Martin M and Catherine (Kane) Ford. He married Bertha Alvin and with her owned Bert and Marty's Truck Stop and Furniture Store in Garden Prairie, IL; following her death, Martin married Karen Schwebke on December 9, 1983. Martin has always worked in the automobile repair field, retiring from Chrysler Corp. in 1982. Martin served our country in W.W. II in the U.S. Army and was a life member of John Hugo Kaiser Post 1461 in Belvidere, IL and the Disabled American Veterans in Mitchell S.D. He enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife Karen, hunting, fishing, shuffle board and slot machines; but mostly spending time with his family and grandchildren.Survivors include his wife Karen of Belvidere, IL; step children, Lita (Bob) Grabbert, Bruce Hobson, Shellie Hobson, Vincent (Nikole) Myers, Thomas Myers, Gloria (Dean) Dahlenburg, Donna Bass; sister, Catherine Rudd of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren, Jonathon and Stephanie; special cousin, Lowell (Elaine) Kane; mother in-law Bessie Schwebke; sister in-law, Edna Ford; Daughter in-law Peggy Gustafson; care giver, Kim Morris and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Martin is preceded in death by his parents and son, Douglas Ford, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in care of the family.
