Mark S. Schmig, 49, of Belvidere, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born on January 2, 1962 in Belvidere, Illinois; the son of Gale and Patricia (Crowley) Schmig. Mark is a graduate of Belvidere High School, class of 1980. He was an Eagle Scout. Mark belonged to Zion Lutheran Church; the Beginning Experience and the More-To-Life groups. He worked for Nussbaum Trucking Co. as a professional driver. Mark is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Jassiel) Schmig-Guerrero, of Rockford; Fiancée, Karen Bardell, of Belvidere; two sisters, Anne Bauer, of Huntsville, Alabama; Linda (Terry) Mohaupt, of Rockford, Illinois; a brother, Rich (Julie) Schmig, of Thanesville, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Josh and Sarah Withers; Aydin Hogan; Joel Tinch; Jen Tobin; and Steve Eykamp. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.
