Marjory Elaine Day, 88, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away January 31, 2024. Born on October 25, 1935 to Gladys (Brussel) and Oscar VanSickle. Marjory was a deeply devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She graduated from West High School, and worked at Rockford Library in her early years. This fostered a deep love for reading and sharing knowledge all her life. Marjory was self educated in a variety of subjects. She was an avid knitter, and would teach the craft of knitting and spinning wool into yarn to the local community. She loved plants and had a deep understanding of botany that extended to a variety of plants and flowers. Marjory would often condense her wisdom into metaphors and quotes which she shared with her family and friends.

On July 23, 1960 she married the love of her life Vernon "Roger" Day. They shared 6 children and 62 years of marriage and are now reunited once again in the presence of the Lord.

They were avid members of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, and relished in life's many blessings together. They traveled, ran a family grocery store together, and were deeply dedicated to their children and grandchildren. Marjory was a talented cook, and loved to make home cooked meals for her family.

Marjory worked as a secretary at Twin Disc, and retired from the USPS in 1997. She sold Avon for many years and had a strong work ethic in all that she did. She enjoyed retirement and the quality time she spent with family, going on nature walks and riding her bicycle.

Marjory will be missed by many, and remembered for her wisdom and quick wit, and the dedication she held for her family and community.

Left to cherish her memory is her children, Cheryl (Jeff) Barlow, Suzanne (Ralph) Earp, Deborah (Ricky) Howarth, Stephen (Tara) Day, Curtis (Kathy) Day, Mary (Tyler) Day-Talley; grandchildren, Mandy, Molly, Marissa, Nichole, Ryan, Eric, Amy, Kennedy, Rachel, Emily, and Alisha; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Eugene Day, sister in law, Marge Day, and nurse Allison Pankow. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family whom she loved dearly.

She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, Vernon "Roger" Day, and her parents, Gladys (Brussel) and Oscar VanSickle as well as her Brother Charles VanSickle, and sister, Carol Barber.

Marjory's visitation will be Thursday, February 15 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church between the hours of 4-7pm located at 105 E Grove St, Poplar Grove, IL 61065.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, at 11am at Poplar Grove United Methodist. Burial will be at Poplar Grove cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Day family.
