Marion J. Downey, 80, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, September 29, 2015 in Maple Crest Care Centre after a lingering illness. "My purpose in life was to love God, family and friends. I hope my Earthly life proved to be some comfort and joy to all who knew me." Marion was born December 4, 1934 in Colfax, WI the daughter of Marshall and Alma Marie (Holm) Quevillan. She was a graduate of Cornell High School where she was a member of the marching band and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Frances College in Joliet, IL. She married Dewey F. "Frank" Downey in Rockford, IL on June 1, 1963. Marion retired from OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after 25 years; she then worked in the nursing department for Chrysler Corp. and then taught nursing for Rockford Career College for a short time.
Marion was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in Deborah Circle, Adult Bible Study, Kids in Christ Kare (KICK) and the Pioneer Club. She was an accomplished accordion player, earned her private pilot's license, traveled extensively with her family and enjoyed "Andy and Aaron' trips following her husband's death. Marion was also a member of the Sons of Norway and was a volunteer for the Boone County Conservation District.
Marion is loved and will be missed by her children, Calvin (Lisa) Downey, Kenneth (Jennifer) Downey and Amy Ortiz all of Belvidere; grandchildren, Alex Jr., Danny, Micaela, Alexandra, Ty, Justin and Alicia; sister Anita Marion of Cadott, WI and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; sisters, Russy and Marion.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2015 in Zion Lutheran Church, 1300 Pearl Street, Belvidere, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 in Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Stollberg officiating. Burial will be in Highland Garden of Memories. Memorial can be given in care of the church in Marion's name. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL.
