Marilyn J. Turner, 88, of Garden Prairie, IL passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford after a lingering illness. Marilyn was born September 18, 1930 in Belvidere, IL the daughter of Lewis B. and Mary A. (Arend) Murley. Marilyn graduated from Belvidere High School with the class of 1948 and went on to earn her Registered Nursing degree from Northwestern University School of Nursing in 1951. Later that year she married James L. "Jim" Turner on September 30, 1951 at First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere. Marilyn was a very loving mother to her four daughters and a devoted wife to Jim. She volunteered her nursing skills at the Boone County Health Department. Her civic activities included Zonta Club and the Boone County Historical Society; she made her spiritual home at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, baking, cooking and hosting many family holidays and entertaining friends.
Marilyn is loved and will be missed by her children, Teri Keegan, Julie Turner, Nancy (Mike) Hearn; grandchildren, Kelli (Ben) Knaup, Dustin (Kathy) Turner, Danielle Turner, Stacey (Scott) Barnes, Ali Hearn and Luke (Leslie) Hearn; great-grandchildren, Emma Knaup, Sam Knaup, Austin Barnes and Aubrey Barnes; sisters in-law, Marlene Smiley and Beverly Gibson; cousins in-law, Gary (Ann) Turner; Special friends, Lorraine Carmichael and Mae Totz; and many special nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Turner; daughter, Lori Turner; son in-law Rock Keegan; sister in-law, Shirley Craig; special cousin, Fran Lorenz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2018 in First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln and Main Street, Belvidere with Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp presiding. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL.
