Marilyn Joyce Kemp Hanson born March 15, 1928 in Belvidere, IL. passed away on July 31,2025. Daughter of Trenton "Mac" and Dorothea (Dillman) McKern.

She resided in Belvidere and Rockford her entire life, graduating from Belvidere High School in 1945.

Marilyn married John M. Kemp on July 11, 1948, who preceded her in death in 1967.

Marilyn married Donald L. Hanson on May 24, 1980, who also preceded her in death in 1989.

She worked at Kemp's Hatchery which was owned by her husband and later helped and co-owned Kemp's Spraying Services while also attending accounting classes at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She later worked for Belvidere Daily Republican Newspaper for 4 years, followed by 23 years as an accountant for Shappert Engineering Co., retiring in 1990.

Marilyn was active in many civic activities, including being a charter member of the Highland Hospital Auxiliary and served as treasurer for 17 years. She was also a charter member and past president of the Zonta Club of Belvidere. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belvidere, serving as a Deacon and an Elder.

She was a member of Bel-Mar County Club where she first played golf and later spent many afternoons playing bridge, which was only one of the many bridge groups to which she belonged. Other favorite pastimes were reading, traveling, and staying involved with her grandchildren's activities. She also loved animals and spoiled her "granddogs".

In later years she did a lot of volunteer driving for Helping Hands and for the American Cancer Society of Rockford. She also made calls on breast cancer patients as part of the "Read to Recovery" program for the Cancer Society.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Jack T. Kemp, Stuart M. Kemp and daughter-in-law Julie (Schwebke) Kemp; her grandchildren, Kira Kemp Bastyr (Ryne), Samuel Kemp (Courtney), Sarah Bowen (Brandon) and great grandchildren Kemper, Maeva, and Nixon Bastyr, Vinny and Joey Kemp, and Blake Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her beloved grandson, John F. Kemp, and her daughter-in-law, Deb (Deeter) Kemp.

A visitation for Marilyn will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10am, at Anderson Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 11am. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Following the inurnment there will be a memorial luncheon at the Belvidere Moose Lodge.
