Marie Angeline (nee Thorn) Sturges, 96, of Elgin, formerly of Belvidere, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Heritage Manor Care Center, Elgin, Illinois following a lengthy illness. She was born January 1, 1913 in Hartford, Wisconsin, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Schnorenborg) Thorn. Marie has resided in Belvidere the past 50 years coming here from Hartford, Wisconsin. She married Joseph Sturges in May 14, 1949 in Hartford. Marie was employed as a cook for various local institutions. She also ran a cake decorating business in her home to support her children after her husband died on December 2, 1964. Marie was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Belvidere and was a 50 plus years member of Catholic Daughters of America. She is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie Sturges, Elgin, Illinois and son, Greg (June) Sturges; a grandson, Daniel and a granddaughter, Alicia, all of Chandler, Arizona; three sisters, Frances Acheson, Helen Semmerling, both of Chicago, Illinois; and Teresa Bridwell, Monona, Wisconsin. In addition to her husband, Marie is predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Joanne , her sister, Sister, Amata, and two brothers, Bill and Paul Thorn.
