Marie Susan (Zick) Hall

Born December, 8, 1927, at home in Manchester Township, in Boone County, Illinois. Her parents were Walter W. Zick and Lena E. (Johnson) Zick. As a child Marie attended Carpenter Elementary School, a one room school house. She graduated from Capron High School and received a two-year degree from Rockford Career College. Marie married Edward Hall on November 28th, 1947 at Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church. She worked as a dietician at Beloit Hospital and then as a secretary at Manchester Elementary School. She served on Manchester Town Board for over 25 years. She also worked as an office manager in her son's (Tim) small engine repair business. At Edwards Apple Orchard in Poplar Grove, IL, Marie was the watermelon pickle-maker, head raspberry-picker and one of the "Fudge Ladies." A life-long member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church, Marie served for many years in the Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild. She loved cooking and collecting recipes, participating in Sons of Norway activities, keeping track of family and friends, researching family genealogy and visiting her cabin on the lake in Michigan's U.P.

Marie will be especially missed by her daughter, Judy Marie Hall, Marquette, MI., her sons, Ken E. (Barb) Hall, and Tim M. (Kris) Hall, both of Poplar Grove, IL. Five grandchildren, Kara Marie (Jason) Balsley, Poplar Grove, IL., Audrey E. (Horace) Lo, Santa Clara, CA, Danny M. Hall, Abby L. (Josh) Bye, and Sarah K. (Andy) Ward, all of Poplar Grove, IL; and eight and one-half great-grandchildren, Oscar Balsley, Finn Balsley, Greta Marie Balsley, Alex Hall, Aiden Bye, Josephine Bye, Lydia Marie Ward, Eli Ward and "Baby" Lo.

Marie is also survived by her loving brother, Herman (Helen) Zick and Dorothy, by many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Canada, Norway and Sweden. She will also be missed by her best buddy Bonnie Jeffers, a close friend for 74 years, and by her elusive outdoor companion, the "Darn Cat."

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 62 years, Edward, her sister-in-law, Helen (Herman) Zick, brothers-in-law, Andrew Hall, Oscar (Lillian) Hall and Seavert "Ole" (Doris and Ethel) Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4,2016 at Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church, 23184 Bergen Rd, Poplar Grove, IL 61065, with Rev. Thomas Groth officiating. Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. Sunday, April 3,2016 at the Church. Burial will take place in Jefferson Prairie Cemetery.
