Obituary

Marguerite Konsdorf, known as Jean to family and friends, was born in Belvidere, IL, on June 30, 1927, the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Dillman) Schlottman. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was married to LaVerne William Konsdorf on December 1, 1946. They were the proud parents of four children: Sally, Lynne, Lisa, and Bill.

Jean was a stay-at-home mom for many years before becoming head cook for Immanuel Lutheran School. After retiring from that position, she was employed part-time at Northwest Fabrics in Rockford. Jean loved to sew and made most of her children's clothes, including wedding dresses for all three daughters and her daughter-in-law and baptismal gowns for her grandchildren.

Jean also loved doing counted cross stitch, creating many elaborate designs that

are treasured by her family. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful flower gardens, as well as in the huge vegetable garden she and LaVerne planted every year.

She and LaVerne traveled with the Men's Garden Club, attending conventions held in various parts of the country. They loved to fish, especially at Russell Lake in Wisconsin.

Jean was a longtime active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of Immanuel's Ladies Guild, helping organize and serve many funeral luncheons. She loved doing the daily crossword in the paper-in cursive and in ink, rarely leaving any blank boxes! She visited the library and bookstores often and kept an extensive list of all the books she had read. In her later years, she loved doing hidden word searches and spending time each morning, reading from her many devotional books and praying for her family.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne in 2016, son-in-law, Tim Draper, and grandson, Jeremy Draper. She is survived by her four children, Sally (Ken) Hartman of St. Charles, MO, Lynne (Mike) Ernster of Glendale, WI, Lisa (Dennis) Johnson of Cherry Valley, Bill (Debbie) of Rockford, and a brother, Richard Schlottman of Woodstock, IL. She was grandmother to Matt (Sarah) Ernster; Tyler (Emily) Ernster; Michelle (Mike) Sell; Kathryn (Jason) Ommodt; Bret Konsdorf; Sara (Doug) Kuhlmann; and Ryan (Maggie) Hartman; and was great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Jean will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 9:30AM with a service at 10:30AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd, Belvidere, IL. Interment will follow at Belvidere Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church or OSF Hospice-Rockford, 9951 Rock Cut Crossing, Loves Park. IL 61111.
