Obituary

Margaret L. Zickuhr, 95, a long time resident of Belvidere, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Provena St. Anne Center following a short illness. She was born on March 25, 1912 in Harvard, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Louise (Jones) Yerke. Margaret married Melvin E. Zickuhr in Brackettville, Texas on December 30, 1941. She graduated from Harvard Community High School and attended Northern Illinois Teacher's College.She taught first through eighth grade students in a one room school house and later was a substitute school teacher in the Belvidere and Rockford School districts. Margaret was a wonderful and caring teacher who had a strong belief in helping children broaden their knowledge and showing that they each make the world brighter. She was admired for her enthusiasm, discipline and love for teaching and life, for her intelligence, sense of humor, empathy for others, strength of personality, and faith in God and love for her family. Margaret was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church; the 60's and Over club, serving as treasurer; member of Mary Martha League and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Immanuel. She was also a member of the Belvidere Women's Club since 1957. She served as a registrar and participated on various club committees. She was also a member of the Illinois State Retired Teachers Association and Boone County Teachers Association. She was instrumental in the success of the annual Belvidere Art Show at Big Thunder Park. She was passionate about cooking. She enjoyed collecting bells, and traveling. She was also an avid bridge player. She is survived by her three children, Tara (Charles) Mufich, of Rockford; Randall Zickuhr, Belvidere; Marci (Erich) Rewoldt, Rockford; three grandchildren, Monica (Garrett Klunk) Mufich; Meredith Mufich; and Melanie Mufich, all of Chicago; a brother Herbert Yerke and sister, Helen Knox; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; a brother, William Yerke; two sisters, Frances Yerke and Garnet Stenerson.
