Margaret E. Fair, 92, a lifelong resident of Belvidere, died Friday, March 18, 2005 in Maple Crest Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born January 24, 1913 in Belvidere, Illinois to John and Edwina (Plane) Thornton. Margaret married John S. Fair in Belvidere on June 6, 1937. He died in 1999. She is a member of First Baptist Church. She was extremely devoted to her family. She provided loving care to many generations including her grandmother, siblings, granddaughters and great granddaughters. Margaret is a graduate of Belvidere High School. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne E. (Charles) Long, of Belvidere; two granddaughters, Julie (Jeffrey) Kong, of Belvidere; Dr. Susan (Steven) Bates, of Ada, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Danielle Crum and Alexandra Bates; three sisters, Clarabel Hass; Frances (Melvin) Taylor; Pearl Funk; a sister-in-law, Barbara Petticord; and a brother-in-law, Fritz Koch; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Lowell Burton; Harold Thornton; John Thornton and a sister, Winnifred Koch.Services 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 22, 2005 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home 218 W. Hurlbut Av. with the Rev. Rex Rogers, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
