New Milford, ILMac E. Smith, age 69, formerly of Belvidere died peacefully June 5, 2009 in his home after a brave battle with bladder cancer. Mac was born August 5, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan the son of Homer and Lucille (Farrel) Smith. He married Bonnie Gilman on June 26, 1957 in Dubuque, Iowa. Mac was an iron-pourer at the National Gray Iron Foundry in Belvidere for 30 years, until the plant closed. He was recognized in 1980 for his 11 years of perfect work attendance, no sick days taken or other times off, just his regular two week vacation in July.In his 20's Mac could be found racing at the Byron Dragway or hanging out at the Rockford Speedway. Mac was a car fanatic all his life. It's hard to say how many cars he has owned over the years, but one thing is for certain, he made the Belvidere car dealerships very happy. Mac loved to go to local auctions and then peddle his wares in Arkansas. The local auction house in Strawberry just had to announce that the "Illinois Man" was coming and they would have a full house. Mac and Bonnie made several trips to Arkansas over the past decade to enjoy the slow pace of country living.Mac is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter Susan (Roger) Cadie of Belvidere, son Rodney Smith of Stillman Valley; grandchildren Adam Cadie of Roscoe; Sgt. Breanna Smith USMC of Louisville, KY, Rebecca Smith Monroe Center, IL; great granddaughter Ariel Sue Cadie; brothers Jerry Smith and Blaine Pickard and sister Lorraine Dorn.Mac is predeceased by his parents and grandson, Bradley Cadie.The family acknowledges the tender care given to Mac by Northern Illinois Hospice and family friend, Tiffany Lilly
