Luis Felipe Bernier, 76, of Belvidere, died in his home Thursday, July 11, 2013. Born September 20, 1936 in Santiago, Cuba; son of Juan Jose Martinez and Esther Bernier. Worked for Chrysler and Ipsen. Luis enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and loved to throw parties for family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to their "Angels" Lori, Christina, and Alexis from Passages Hospice, and Dr. Anthony Molinari for their compassionate care.Survived by his ex-wife and best friend Socorro "Coco" Bernier; sons Luis Martinez and Jorge (Gloria Onate) Martinez both of Louisville, KY; step-sons Jose (Sandra) Ibarra of Belvidere, Oskar (Lisa) Ibarra of Menomonee Falls, WI, Roberto (Ann Marie) Ibarra of Rockford, Ricardo (Julie) Ibarra of Garden Prairie, Sergio (Felicia Brown) Ibarra of Rockford; grandchildren Luis, Lien, Elizabeth, Gloria Maria, Alberto, Oskar, Ariana, Aric, Isabella, Nico, Xavier, Diego, and "Zoe". Step-sister Cuca Martinez of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law Esmeralda Martinez of Miami; nephews Rolando and Joel Martinez of Miami. Predeceased by his parents and brother Rolando Martinez.Memorial visitation 5 to 7 PM Thursday, July 18, 2013 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere.
