Obituary

Lucille Dorothy Weber, 96 of Rockford, IL, passed away on June 9, 2024. She was born on March 20, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. The daughter of Rev. Henry Arndt and Frieda Schlachtenhaufen Arndt. Early in their marriage they died of pneumonia one week apart. At that time Lucille was almost four and Bob almost three, they were taken to the home of Rev. Wal and Charlotte Schlachtenhaufen, who legally adopted them. After graduating from Ripon High School in Wis. she attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. She received a B.S. degree and became an elementary teacher. She dearly loved the children and they loved her in return. Her post grad work continued for a number of years. On August 16, 1958 she married Rev. Rolf Olson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their marriage was blessed with the first of their children, their daughter Lynne. Rolf died of cancer when Lynne was 22 months old. Lucille was a widow for five years, returning to teaching.

How could she resist George Weber when he came to the door with a dozen red roses on the first date. She married George Weber, a widower, on August 20, 1967 in West Allis Wisconsin. Along with Lynne Marie, a flower girl, and Ronald Weber, ring bearer. They were blessed with 50 wonderful years of marriage together. Red roses were given many times in later years. They lived in Rockford, IL for 21 years, during which time she was a remedial reading tutor. Her focus was on education and music in churches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Rockford, IL.

They retired in Mountain home, Arkansas in 1993, where they became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was active in many organizations such as Vespir Society,  Evangelism board for 3 years.  Bible classes, some with George, Writing advent devotions for several years, and Prayer Ministry. Her interest in community groups continued for 20 years, such as Rod and Reel club with her husband George, Baxter County Historical Society, nursing home sunshine ladies, brought music, laughter, and cheer to many patients.

George and Lucille enjoyed traveling to many countries together. They were able to experience many different cultures in the Hawaiian Islands, Caribbean, Jamaica, European Countries and more. The cruises took them to sail about touching a series of ports, seeing the sights of the USA was interesting and informative. Back home two loyal Packer Backers were cheering the team on, good and bad days.

Our greatest joy was enjoying time with our family. Lucille and George became members of Christ Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL after moving back to Illinois to live with Lynne and Doug.  Lynne was caregiver for Lucille and George for 10 years, with the past 6 years with just Lucille.  Lucille endured a move with Lynne and Doug to a smaller home in Rockford, IL in 2022.  Lucille no longer had steps to climb daily as she relied on her walker and developed other medical issues. Lucille lived a comfortable life there with her family around her.

Mrs. Weber is survived by her daughter Lynne (Doug) DuPont, of Rockford, IL. two grandchildren, Dan and Melinda Dupont (fiancé Seth Rehberg), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Rev. Rolf Olson, George Weber, son Ronald Weber, two sets of parents and one brother, Bob Arndt.

Lucille's memorial visitation will be on Friday, June 21, at 10 am. Memorial service to follow at 11am located at Christ Lutheran Church 425 Riverside Rd, Belvidere, IL 61008.
