Linda S. Bowers, 67, of Belvidere, passed away, Sunday, May 14, 2017 at UW Madison after a short illness. Born October 6, 1949 in Belvidere, daughter of Victor G. and Ruby R. (Smith) Mullins. She married Larry Bowers on August 20, 1994. Linda graduated from Belvidere High School, class of 1967, and went on to Rockford Beauty Academy. She was a faithful member of Crosswords Christian Fellowship in Rockford. Linda owned her own beauty shop and bakery out of her home. She was devoted to the Boy Scouts of America, where she served as the Round Table Commissioner for the Blackhawk Area Council. Linda was a phenomenal baker; and loved making cookies, wedding cakes and unique cakes for those she loved. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, and making dolls. Linda also had a knack for floral arranging, creating corsages and bouquets for weddings and special events. She adored volunteering for 40 plus years with the Blackhawk Area Council (BSA) and the Girl Scouts of America. She will truly be missed as our "Angel on Earth." Linda was an aunt, mother, and friend to all.
Linda is loved and missed by her husband, Larry; children, Duane (Corey) Abernathy, and Paul Abernathy; step-children, David, Zachary, and Carrie; grandchildren, Katelyn, Brandon, Justin, Zachary, Reuben, Deaven, and Abby Abernathy; several step-grandchildren; brother, Bobby (Kay) Mullins; nieces and nephew, Rhonda, Derek Todd, and Becka; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ronnie G. Mullins, and granddaughter, Ariel Abernathy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Pastor Randy Hargate officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until 11:15 a.m., prior to the service. Burial in Highland Garden of Memories.
