August 3, 1942 – July 26, 2024
Leon James Jankowski, 81, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away on July 26, 2024 at OSF St. Anthony's with his family by his side. He was born on August 3, 1942 in Chicago, IL. The son of Jane (Bielinski) and Vincent Jankowski Jr. Leon was a deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather. On August 4, 1962 he married the love of his life, Carol (Sterczek) at St. Viator Church in Chicago, IL. Together they shared 61 years of marriage and raised 3 children, and were also blessed with 3 grandchildren.
Leon worked for 30 years as a Truck driver. His work ethic and commitment to the community extended into his 7 years of service as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Algonquin. Leon enjoyed hockey and he coached for many years.
He loved animals and had many pets throughout his life. His horses especially held a special place in his heart. He loved to ride and care for them for as long as he was able. In his spare time Leon enjoyed a good game of cards, socializing with friends and following the pursuits of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jankowski; their children, Kimberly (Stephen) Shields, Mark Jankowski, Leslie (Joshua) Schnulle; grandchildren, Zachary (Lia) Shields, Tristan Schnulle, and Harlee Schnulle; brother, Allen and sister, Nina, as well as numerous extended family he loved dearly. Leon is predeceased by his parents.

Carol and family would like to thank the staff at Davita in Belvidere and Dr. Michael Lesser, for their kindness, care and support.
Leon's visitation will be Friday, August 16th between 10am and 11:30am at Anderson Funeral Home located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvedere, IL. Memorial service to follow at 11:30.
