Belvidere, ILLeland Wayne Onley, 63 a Boone County resident for the past 22 years died peacefully Friday afternoon, August 5, 2011 in the comfort of his home with the loving care of his family. Lee was born November 19, 1947 in Oregon, IL the son of Ione and Elmer Onley. He married Dianne Anderson on April 14, 1973 in Belvidere, IL. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1965 and from Liberty University, then joined the Illinois National Guard and retired as Command Sergeant Major after 27 years; joined the Boone County Sheriff's Department in 1997, Boone County Emergency Management Agency and was a D.A.R.E. officer. Lee also worked for Eagle Foods, Rockford Fire Department as a Rockford Alarm Dispatcher and helped start 911; Hedrick Electric, Vaughn's TV, and Veto Enterprises.Lee was a member and past president of Immanuel Lutheran Church, life time member of the National Guard Association of Illinois, Police Car Owners of America life member, Good Tymes Car Club and loved to show his 1994 Red Chevrolet Caprice.Lee is survived by his wife Dianne; daughters Tressa (Dwight) Smith of Oregon, IL, Tina West of Scott AFB, IL; son Troy (Bridget Martin) Onley of Belvidere, IL, grandchildren Brianna, Kellie, Travis, Keiri, Eliana, Eric, Bryan, Amanda, Mattie and one on the way; parents Ione and Elmer of Oregon; brother Larry (Debbie) of Rockford and numerous nieces and nephews.Special "Thank You" to Dr. Harvey Einhorn, Val Perez, RN and all the nurses, Heartland Hospice, family and friends who helped in the long journey.
