Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” V. Baker, 89, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at his home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

Larry was born on July 28, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harold and Leila Baker. He attended Monroe Center, Illinois schools and graduated as valedictorian of his class. He later attended the University of Illinois before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force as an aeromedical specialist in the flight surgeon’s office.

Larry married the love of his life, Joanne, in October of 1961, and together they were blessed with 64 wonderful years of marriage. His faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was a guiding force throughout his life. Larry was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for more than 60 years.

Larry spent most of his working years farming in the Cherry Valley, Illinois area. He also worked in a machine shop, was a maintenance manager for United Banks, as well as spent some time in the hearing aid business. He was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical mind, and ability to fix nearly anything, even with the help of a little duct tape. He enjoyed bird watching, yard work, and especially treasured time spent with family and friends.

Larry will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Joanne; his daughter, Beth Wait; his son, Jeffrey (Angela) Baker; his grandchildren, Jason Wait, Adam (Britney) Wait, and Alexandria (Stephen) Rispalje; and his great-grandson, Xander Wait.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Leila Baker.

A visitation for Lawrence will be held on June 1, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL., at 10 AM. A service will take place at 11 AM., officiated by Pastor Richard. A burial will follow at Flora Cemetery.
