Obituary

Larry Lee Van Fleet, loving husband, father and grandfather finished his fight withan extended illness and passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at Saint Anthony Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1936 in Richland County, WI to Lafe & Thelma (Hurst) Van Fleet. Larry graduated from Readstown High School in Readstown, WI where he was a member of the marching band, playing the coronet. Larry was also a good athlete who excelled in track, basketball and baseball. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles but declined and instead decided to stay in the local area with his high school sweetheart, Donna Jean Eide, daughter of Thomas & Ann Eide of Folsom, WI. Larry and Donna were married on Sep. 3, 1955 at Franklin Lutheran Church in Folsom, WI. They moved to Belvidere, IL in the same year and were blessed with the birth of a son, Kevin Mark. Kevin married Pamela Lynne Harrison on Jun. 24, 1978 and they had three children of their own: Megan Elise, Abbey Leah, and Keriann Marie. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, brother, brother-in-laws and nephews. He also was a great fan of the Green Bay Packers and helped to establish the Illinois Packer Backers in 1975. Larry was employed at Abar Ipsen in Cherry Valley for over 40 years and was a dedicated member of the First Methodist Church in Belvidere. Larry is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Kevin (Pamela) Van Fleet of Belvidere; and granddaughters, Megan Van Fleet of Chicago, Abbey Van Fleet of Belvidere and Keriann Van Fleet of Belvidere. He is survived by his mother-in-law,Anne Eide as well as his siblings: Dwight (Dorothy) Van Fleet of Hayward, WI; Avis Hooverson of Viroqua, WI; Delores (Paul) Felton of Belvidere; Sharon (Roger) Clark of Poplar Grove; and Dixie (Howard) Chambers of Belvidere. Larry is also survived by his many close brothers and sisters-in-law: Marlene (Chester) Ostrem of Viroqua, WI; Ruth Ann (Nelson) Ward of Viroqua, WI; Steven (Linda) Eide of La Crosse, WI; and Sonja (Michael) Whitfield of Viroqua, WI. Many loving nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends survive him as well. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, and one brother-in-law, TellHooverson.
