Obituary

Larry G. Steinke, 102, of Cherry Valley, passed away on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017. He was born on May 3, 1915, to Fred and Bertha Steinke. Lived most of his life in Belvidere and Cherry Valley. Married Myrtle Dorn in November of 1939. She predeceased him in March of 1972. He then married his second wife, Juluia "Julie" Latino in December of 1974. He was the owner of The Belvidere Tile and Flooring Company for many years. Also worked for the Belvidere School District as a bus driver. He was an amateur boxer in his early 20's, and also served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in central Illinois doing soil erosion control. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. He loved and enjoyed all of his family and friends to the fullest. He was a soft-spoken true gentleman. He had a wonderful laugh that will be missed by all. He always had a kind, encouraging word for everyone-even strangers. He lived his life based on the Golden Rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Survived by his two children from his first marriage, daughter, Kay (Darrell L.) Templin, and son, Steve (Kathy) Steinke. Grandsons, Brett (Debbie) Johnson, Jed Johnson, Darrell R. Templin, Jason (Jen) Steinke, and Jarrod (Grace) Steinke. Great-Grandchildren, Nikki (Drew Reese) Johnson, Stephanie (Chris) Pantaleo, Alec Johnson, Emma and Olivia Steinke, Alan and Aiden Steinke. One Great-Great Grandson, Malin Pantaleo. Many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his second wife, Juluia "Julie" and four step-children, Francine (Larry) Carr, Larry (Laura) Latino, Pat (Sue) Latino, and Sarah Latino. Step-Grandchildren, Bridget Wright, Aaron (Chelsie) Latino, Josh (Jeff) Englin, Danielle (Kent) Blatchford, Maegan (Jimmy) Rozinski, Ashley (Jamie) Nason, Lindsay (Jason) Herrala, Aric Latino, Brandon (Deanna) Latino, Neal Latino, Josie Latino, Kayla Harris, and Kyle Harris. Step-Great-Grandchildren, Joseph and Joshua Wright, Halle, Hudson, and Holland Latino, Liam and Molly Blatchford, Helena and Turner Rozinski, Delilah Latino, Johnathen and Evan Eddy, Ayleen and Dominic DiGuiseppi, and Carmyne Nason. Predeceased by his parents, first wife, Myrtle, infant Granddaughter, Lisa Johnson, four brothers, Harry, Alvin, Arnold, and Ralph Steinke, and sister, Loretta Cullen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. The Rev. Muriel Morley-Jahn officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery.
