Kevin
Kaltenbach
Nov 18, 1957 — Aug 17, 2026
Kevin Wayne Kaltenbach, 68, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. He was born on November 18, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois, to Winifred “Suzann” (Fulton) and Wayne Ira Kaltenbach.
Kevin was a graduate of Guilford High School and spent most of his working life behind the wheel as a truck driver for FedEx. Over the years, he became part of a second family there, forming many lasting friendships with his FedEx family.
Kevin was a man who was most at home outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for nature, birds, and the beauty of the wilderness. He loved gardening, hiking, canoeing, spending time on the river, and camping in national parks. He traveled throughout much of the United States and into Canada, always looking for his next place to explore and camp. He especially enjoyed wilderness and off-the-grid camping, sometimes spending six weeks at a time pack camping and living simply outdoors. For Kevin, there was something special about being away from the noise of everyday life and surrounded by nature.
Those who knew Kevin well knew he could be extremely particular, he liked things done a certain way and paid attention to the details; but beneath that sometimes-strict exterior was a kind and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor. He never met a stranger. Though quiet when you first met him, once he knew you, his funny personality and playful side came out. He was a jokester who could make people laugh and someone who valued genuine friendship and connection.
Kevin's greatest love was his life partner and best friend, Sherill Gnesda, with whom he shared a life filled with love, friendship, laughter, travel, and countless memories.
He is also survived by his brothers, Michael (Brenda) Kaltenbach, and Kenneth (Sue) Kaltenbach, his nephew, Scott; and his nieces, Michelle, Katherine, and Kristina. He will also be lovingly remembered by his aunt, Virginia Davidsaver; Uncle Tom and Aunt Jan Fulton; and Aunt Darlene Peters. Kevin leaves behind many dear friends, including Jeff Donaldson and Martin Keyhoe, as well as his FedEx family, especially Raquel, Shelley, and Becky, along with many other friends and extended family members who were fortunate to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winifred “Suzann” and Wayne Kaltenbach.
Kevin will be remembered for his quiet nature, quick wit, kindness, strong personality, and his deep love for the outdoors. He leaves behind a lifetime of adventures, beautiful places explored, stories shared, and memories that will remain with those who loved him. He will be deeply missed by Sherill, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation for Kevin will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, Illinois, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Garden of Memories.
