Kenneth Gene Smith, 72, of Poplar Grove, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family. Born July 7, 1938 in Chicago, son of Paul and Garland Smith. Married Patricia Schwartz on December 27, 1964 in Albany, WI. Worked as an assembler on the engine line at Chrysler from 1970 until his retirement on July 31, 1998. Ken was always the comedian wanting to laugh and make others laugh. He never hesitated to help anyone in need. Ken doted on his grandchildren. He was very loving but very stubborn. It was his way or the highway. He enjoyed mowing lawns, working on and driving cars, and working in the pit at the Fairgrounds helping with the demolition cars.Survived by his loving wife Patricia, sons Alvin (Sherry Uhlir) Smith of Belvidere, Tony (Robin Taylor) Smith of Poplar Grove, Clint (Marne) Smith of Poplar Grove, Chad (fiancé Bridget Johnson) Smith of Machesney Park, grandchildren Deagen, Adam, Dillon, Danielle, Kayla and Michelle, great-grandchildren Jayden, Michael, and Kimberly, sister Norma Armitage of Monroe, WI, brother Robert of CA, sister-in-law Betty of FL. Predeceased by his parents, sister Donna and brother Frank.
