Kathleen Matschke, 61, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2017 at her home.  Kathleen was born in Hammond, IN, the daughter of John and Nona Wojtowich, and raised in Harvey, IL. She earned her Bachelor's degree in music from the American Conservatory, and Master's degrees in both special education and music education from Roosevelt University.  Kathleen was a very gifted teacher who spent the last 12 years of her long and fruitful career at Jefferson High School working with special needs students.  She always felt blessed to work in the profession she loved, and often became very attached to her students.  She seemed tireless, and didn't let her dedication as a teacher compromise her dedication as a wife, mother, and homemaker.  In addition to touching and changing the lives of so many young people with special needs, Kathleen created and produced numerous wonderful musical performances for children.  She also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and had a passion for cooking (many others had a passion for her cooking also).  Kathleen always put forth her best effort, sought diligently to do what was good and right, and gave of herself continually.  She was loved and respected by many in all walks of life, and felt that what mattered most was the mark left behind as she touched other souls, be they wise or simple.

She and her family sincerely thank all of those who offered many prayers and provided much help; the outpouring has been humbling, and it brought great comfort to Kathleen.  As many of you know, even at the end she remained steadfast in her faith and was at peace in her heart.

Kathleen is loved and missed by her husband, Jeff, her children, John and Lea, her step-son Jeff II (and his wife, Alayna), whom Kathleen raised as her own son from a very young age, her father, her brother Adam and his wife, Chris, their son, Alex, her nephew, Mark Whennen and his wife, Asako, their son, Kai, and many other friends, students, and extended family members who came to know and love her, a kind and gentle lady, diligent, faithful and true.
