Kathleen M. "Katy" Leonard, 62, of Rockford died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center from complications associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was born on February 28, 1951 in Belvidere, IL; the daughter of Charles and Sophronia "So-So" (Cashmore) Nihan. Katy graduated with a B.S. in Education from Illinois State University. She married Steven L. Leonard in Belvidere on June 8, 1974. She was formerly employed as an Elementary School Teacher for the Poplar Grove and Capron School Districts. Katy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She participated in various bible studies. She volunteered at the Sterling, IL Food Pantry and was involved in the Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Walk. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. Her passion for life was enthusiastic as she shared God's love with many. She was an incredible source of compassion and strength to others. She is survived by Husband, Steven of Rockford; daughter, Melissa (Tim) Kiekow, Volo, IL; Son, Chad (Linda) Leonard, Wheaton, IL; two grandchildren, Logan and Elena Kiekow; a sister, Nancy Foreman; two brothers, Dan and Charlie Nihan and several nieces and nephews. Katy is preceded in death by her parents.
