Karen E. Dieterman-Backs, 66, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 9, 2017 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 1, 1951 in Belvidere, daughter of George and Vivian (Schwebke) Dieterman. Karen graduated from North Boone High School, and went on to graduate with an Associate's degree from Rock Valley College. She married Edward Backs on November 22, 1998 in Belvidere. Karen worked as an administrative assistant at Rock Valley College and Ingersoll Milling. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere. Karen enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and taking care of her yard. Most of all, she loved gathering with her family.

Karen is loved and missed by her husband, Edward; brother, Dale (Julie "Kit") Dieterman; sister, Janice (Dave) Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also a special mention of Ed's children, Mike (Susie) Backs, Karyn (Emillio) Salgado, Tricia (Jeremy) Ulferts and his grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Yvonne Giesecke, and brother, Ken Dieterman.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 12, at the church. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Karen's name.
