June M. Thomas, 87, Belvidere passed away peacefully on Aug 3 in Maple Crest Care Center, Belvidere. Born June 3, 1920 in Rockford, daughter of George and Martha (Lewis) Oberg. Married Peter Thomas on January 30, 1942. Graduated from Rockford High School, Class of 1938. Life long member of Third Presbyterian Church, Rockford where she engaged in many activities of the church especially Piecemakers. June's primary occupation was being a homemaker, however she was employed as a security guard for many years prior to retirement at Amerock Corp. A gifted craft person she was skilled in gardening, ceramics, quilting, needlepoint and other creative media. Many will remember the tradition of an annual sale of bittersweet from a stand at her home on East State Street in Rockford. June resided most of her life in Rockford, but for the past 14 years lived in the care of son George's family in rural Belvidere. Survived by sons Peter (Mary Kay), Robert (Jeanne) Rockford and George (Kim), Belvidere and Daughter Mary Ann (Ron) Long of Rockford. Grandchildren Julie (Larry) Holen, Marc Thomas, Paul (Angela) Thomas, Copley, OH, Kristin (Joe) Turek, Ahnn (Tony) Recoy, Susan (Jeff) Allen, Evan Thomas, Christopher Long and Graham Thomas. Great-grandchildren Samantha, Claudia and Olivia Holen, Alexandra, Sarah, Jacob and Abigail Thomas, McKenna, Kerrigan and Delainey Turek and Hayden Allen. Numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.Predeceased by husband Peter Sr. in 1988, grandson Greg Thomas in 1992, brothers Francis, George and Frank (Darlene) Oberg.Heartfelt thanks to Elvira Powell, Dr. Thomas Michalsen and the staff at Maple Crest for their gentle care in Mom's final days.
