Julio Galvan, 1963 - 2020

Julio Parra Galvan, of Belvidere, died on December 26, 2020, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. He was born on July 30, 1963, in Urireo, Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Delfino Galvan and Josefina (Parra) Galvan.

Julio married his wife, Maria, on November 24, 1990, in Belvidere, Illinois, at St. James Catholic Church and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last month. A devoted father and grandfather, Julio's pride and joy were his children and granddaughters. An immigrant to the United States, Julio was dedicated to the importance of education, sending all four of his children to college. Julio was the first in the family to become an American citizen and loved this country for what he saw as the land of opportunity.

A longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, Illinois, Julio was an active volunteer and liturgist. His final place of employment was General Mills, where he worked for over 12 years as a part of Crunchy D-Crew. In his spare time, he enjoyed keeping busy with numerous home improvement projects, a vibrant garden, and spending as much time outdoors with his family. An avid sports fan, Julio supported the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls, as well as the national football team of Mexico and Club América, attending several games throughout his lifetime. He will be missed by so many.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maria; children, Ashley (Brad Bauch), Rebecca (Alex Will), Jesus, and Julia; granddaughters Olivia and Natalie Bauch; siblings, Delfino (Piedad), Adelberto (Ana), Eduardo (Asuncion), Carmen (Raul), Rosa, and Juan (Fabiola); and numerous relatives in his extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, older brother, Jose Luis, and father-in-law Roberto Lopez.

His family would like to thank the Critical Care Center Staff at St. Anthony Hospital for their tireless efforts to help Julio and all others affected by COVID-19. Julio was an exemplary essential employee. His death and all other needless deaths of innocent people due to the virus should serve as a reminder to wear a mask, remain socially distant, and listen to the guidance provided by scientists.

Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008 on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 9:00-10:30am. Due to state guidelines, only 10 guests can be in the funeral home at one time. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church St, Belvidere, IL 61008. Due to state guidelines, 200 hundred guests at a time can attend Mass. Interment will be held privately at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Belvidere, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions in Julio's name may be gifted to the family to establish a memorial with the Belvidere Park District and St. James Church at a later date.
