IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph S.
Waldspurger
March 1, 1943 – July 31, 2025
Joseph S. Waldspurger, 82, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on July 31, 2025. He was born on March 1, 1943, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph Waldspurger and Myrtle (Stevens).
Joe attended Penn State University from 1961 to 1965, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After graduation, Joe worked for Sears, Roebuck & Company. Joe was a rising star at Sears and held several jobs, including local store manager, suburban manager, and customer service manager.
In the midst of the Vietnam War, Joe was inducted into the United States Army on April 19, 1966. He was stationed in Virginia, where he attended Officer Training School and achieved the rank of Specialist Five (equivalent to a Sergeant but with a focus on technical expertise). In May 1968, Joe received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
After his honorable discharge, Joe resumed working for Sears, Roebuck & Company, where he would find his niche as a computer programmer. Tapping into his creative side, Joe also designed electronic communication systems. He finished his career working for IBM and AT&T Communications.
Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was a capable handyman and a skilled woodworker who hand-carved impressive items, including intricate miniature train models, a puppet theatre for his grandchildren, and a dollhouse for his granddaughter, complete with hand-carved miniature furniture. He was a kind, proud, and loving grandfather. He was also a kind neighbor, often cutting his neighbors' lawns when he was able to do so.
After several years of friendship, Joe married Ilona Csiki on May 25, 2023. He is survived by Illona; by his son, Mick (Amy) Waldspurger; by his daughter, Debbie Kissinger; and by his grandchildren, Cooper (Jasmine) Waldspurger, Cambelle Waldspurger, and Melissa Houser. Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa, by his parents, and by his brothers, Daniel and Keith.
