Joseph Rubeck 83, of North Port FL and formerly of Belvidere, IL died peacefully, September 4, 2014 in the VA Home at Port Charlotte, FL after a lengthy illness. Joe was born July 24, 1931 in Belvidere the son of Elmer and Elise (Groves) Rubeck. He married Elaine Welin on September 3, 1954 in Belvidere; they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Jo worked for Sinclair Oil, Standard Oil and Hicks Gas as well as some farming over the years prior to his retirement. Joe enjoyed woodworking, fixing anything that needed fixing, fishing and feeding the birds especially the Egrets. Joe loved his family and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in US Army in Korea.
Joseph is loved and will be missed by his wife, Elaine; children, Larry (Vali Jo) Rubeck of Belvidere, IL and David Rubeck of Elroy, WI; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Gordon Rubeck and sister, Shirley VanDusen both of Belvidere.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014 in First United Methodist Church, 610 Bonus Avenue, Belvidere, Il with Rev. Amy Poust officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be in Shattuck Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of First united Methodist church or the Boone County Historical Museum in Joe's memory. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral and Cremation services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL.
