IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Everett
Sturges
November 30, 1951 – December 12, 2025
John Everett Sturges, 74, passed away on December 12, 2025, at home with his family by his side. Born November 30, 1951, to Mildred (Dykeman) and Ward Sturges, John grew up in Belvidere and graduated from BHS in 1970. He was proud of where he came from and spent over 36 years working hard as a woodworker for Belvedere Company.
On July 17, 1971, John married the love of his life, Judy (Osterberg). Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage and one beloved son. John found his greatest joy in family. He enjoyed watching Jay play baseball and playing with his granddaughter, Leah. His happiest role in life was being a husband, father, and especially a grandpa.
John was a craftsman through and through. Woodworking wasn't just his job, it was his way of relaxing, creating, and taking pride in doing things the right way. His hands were rarely still, and his work spoke for itself. When he wasn't in the workshop, he enjoyed settling into a good book.
He was also a loyal sports fan, rooting hard for the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Kansas City Chiefs. John had a soft spot for animals and cared for pets all throughout his life. John will be remembered as a steady, hardworking man with a big heart.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Sturges; their son, Jay (Kristina) Sturges; grandchildren, Leah Sturges and Payton Monteleone; brothers, Peter (Linda) Sturges and Robert (Chris) Sturges, sister, Theresa Sturges-Brown, sister-in-law, Cheryl Sturges; and brother-in-law, Leo Hall. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members he loved dearly.
He is welcomed into heaven by his parents, Ward and Mildred Sturges; brother Dennis Sturges; and sister, Ellen Hall.
John's visitation will be Wednesday, December 17, between the hours of 5-7pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral to follow at 7pm.
John's family would like to extend their appreciation to Mercy Health Hospice and Nurse Susie for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to PAWS Humane Society .
