John D. Stanfle, 86, of Caledonia, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center following a month long illness. He was born on July 8, 1925, in Mystic, Iowa; the son of Matthew and Eva (Polich) Stanfle. John was married to Donna H. Gulick in Davenport, Iowa on January 25, 1945. He was employed as an engineer for J.I. Case Company. John was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Navy. He was a member of the Catholic Faith. John was an avid sports fan which included golf, NASCAR, Chicago Bears, Cubs and Bulls teams. He personally enjoyed golfing, bowling, the outdoors, fishing, hunting and lawn care. He was a multiple time "Yard of the Month" winner. John is survived by his two daughters, Carol Buffington and Karen Mitchell, both of Caledonia, Illinois; a grandson, Brian (Deena) Buffington, Loves Park, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Alexandra and Anthony Buffington; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna in 2007, and ten brothers and sisters.
