John P. Smith, 76 of Belvidere passed away Saturday September 2 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born June 25, 1930 in Rochelle, the son of Phillip T. and Edith (McQueen) Smith. John graduated from Kirkland High School in 1948. John was known for being a caretaker for friends and relatives and having a warm and giving heart. Survivors include his daughter Brenda Smith, grandchildren Brittney, Jacob, and Ethan Menges, sister; Virginia Steinke, sister-in-law Marilyn Smith, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and a sister.
