John Wynn Ryan, 80 of Belvidere, IL passed away, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Northwoods Care Centre after a short battle with leukemia.  John was born June 17, 1934 in Evanston, IL the son of James Thomas and Jane (Wynn) Ryan.  He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard having served during the Korean War aboard an ice breaker.  John married Shirley Ann Halverson on July 1, 1967 at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere.  He retired from Chrysler Corporation Belvidere Plant. John had a firm belief that life is sacred, and this lead to his life-long support of the Pro-Life movement.

John is loved and will be missed by his children, John Jr. "Jack" (Marilyn) Ryan of Belvidere, Sarah (Matt) Adas of Caledonia and Julie (James) Lien of Davis Junction; grandchildren, John III "Jake", Nickole, Allen, J.T. and Max Ryan, Matthew, Josh, Paul and Sean Adas, Mary, Skot, Katherine, Ryan, Zachary and Thaddeus Lien; siblings, Jim (Maryann) Ryan of Tucson, AZ, Mike (Shirley) Ryan, Milton, MA, Mary Ann (Jim) Rechtien of Lansing, MI, Jane (Tom) Carrell of Roscoe and P.K. (Jayne) Ryan of Medina, OH  as well as 20 nieces and nephews.  John is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Shirley.

The family acknowledges Canon Brian Bovee of St. Mary Oratory and Rev. Steven Lange, Chaplain of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center as well as Dr. Korkmaz and the wonderful staff at OSF Center for Cancer Care, Leza and the caring staff at OSF 4 West, Dr. Barnhart and the folks at OSF Hospice, Becky and the staff of Northwoods Care Center and a very special thank you to Dr. Anthony Molinari.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL with Rev. Brian Geary, pastor of St. James Catholic Church offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  The wake will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home with Rosary being prayed at 7:00PM.  Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Belvidere.  To light a candle or to share a memory, please visit www.AndersonFCS.com
