John Maleck, 81, of Belvidere, IL, died peacefully February 20, 2023 in Belvidere. He was born September 1, 1941, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, son to Michael and Charlotte (Mallon) Maleck. He graduated high school and served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. He married his sweetheart, Janet Arndt August 6, 1966 in Belvidere at Immanuel Lutheran Church. John painted for his dad's business. He was a bartender and after 35 years, retired from Chrysler in 2001. John was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved to watch any sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. He especially loved to spend time with his family and friends whether at home or at his lake home in South Dakota where he and his wife spent many summers.
John is loved and will be missed by his wife, Janet; son, Jerry Maleck; daughters, Sheryl Carlton and Wendy (David) Keating; brothers, David (Karen) Maleck, Bill (Jane) Maleck, and Patrick (Patti) Maleck; sister-in-law, Nancy Maleck Hodgson; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Amy) Lund, Jaime Burdette, Jennifer (James) Wynn, Stephanie (Sarah Russell) Fernando, Alysha (Jennifer Nunn) Keating and Kerry Boettcher; 12 great-grandchildren, life long best friend, Merrill Klatt; several brother and sister-in-laws; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandkids who all had a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael; sisters, Margaret Maleck, Carol Braker, Susie Scott; daughter-in-law, Monica Maleck; and step-son, James Lund.
A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008. A service will follow at 12 p.m. with a burial at Belvidere Cemetery. Military honors will be given at the cemetery. Deacon Laura Gorton will officiate.
