John N. Gable, 95 a lifelong resident of the Cherry Valley area, died Sunday evening in his home following a lengthy illness. Born in Cherry Valley, July 21, 1909, the son of Chester and Flora (Ward) Gable. He married O. Clarice Carson, January 11, 1932 in Freeport, Ill. He was a hydraulic pump repairman for Roper's and Greenlee's, Rockford retiring in 1977. He was a sixty year member and past master of Cherry Valley Masonic Lodge #173. A member of the Rockford Crusader Commandery #117 of the York Rite, and the Tebala Shrine. A past patron of Cherry Valley Chapter #478 of O.E.S. A former member of the Cherry Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, especially roses. Surviving are sons, Charles (Eleanor), Belvidere; Clark (Gayle), Salt Lake City, Utah; Douglas Gable, Cherry Valley and son-in-law, James Purcell, Green Forest, Arkansas. Grandchildren, Cindy Wessondorf; and Steve Purcell, five step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents, wife, daughter, Margaret Purcell, brothers, Clifford, Ralph, and Harvey Gable.
