John W. Bates, 61, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, January 4, 2022, in his home after a tenacious battle with cancer. John was born October 1, 1960, in Rockford, IL the son of J. William and Jane C. (Carter) Bates. He married Donna K. Stevens on August 22, 1992, at Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere. John was a principal of Allegra Printing in Belvidere. When he wasn't working, you would find John riding his Harley and spending time with his family. He loved hosting family gatherings and parties. John was a member of the Harley Owners Group, and was an ice cream aficionado. John had a special place in his heart for furry and feathery creatures.

John is loved and will be missed by his wife, Donna; children, Amy (Whit) Mitchell of Broadhead, WI, Cory (Carin Hunt) Lind of Belvidere, Laura (Mike Hoffeditz) Lind of Roscoe, IL, Johnny Bates of Hanover, WI; chosen daughter, Sandra Rogers of Marengo, IL; siblings, Nancy Kosar of Belvidere, Bob (Doris) Bates, Belvidere, Bill Bates of Dayton, OH, Mary (Lee) Turner of Belvidere, Sue (Roger) Haile of Belvidere, Cindy (Charlie) Foster of Belvidere; grandchildren, Devon Rogers, Kaydence Noble, Julia Noble, Kameron Atkinson, Avery Lind; nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; his beloved "healing" cats, KiKi and Miester. John was blessed with a long list of very special friends. John is preceded in death by his parents; brother in-law Ken Kosar; father in-law, Dale Stevens; niece, Tracy Luse.

The visitation for John will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL. The Funeral service for John will be held at 10:00 a.m, Saturday January 15, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of the family.
