Joan A. Strate, 90, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, April 13, 2022, in her home with her family at her side after a sudden illness. Joan was born December 29, 1931, in Belvidere, IL the daughter of Clarence and LaVera (Merrick) Hills. She married Kenneth Strate on January 19, 1951, in Belvidere, IL; he preceded her in death on February 10, 2018. Joan worked for Marshall Fields for over thirty years as well as working alongside Ken during the time they were co-owners of The Huddle Inn between 1980 and 1992. She loved to tell stories to her grandchildren about growing up on the farm and how she never had to do much work because she was the youngest of five. Joan loved to dress for the occasion and did so with flare always in the latest styles.

She is loved and will be missed by her children, Jeffrey (Janis) Strate, Diana Kuch, Dana (Pam) Strate-Lutzow; grandchildren, Kristen (Schuyler) Strate, Allison (Craig) Wares, Melissa (Josh) Smith, Brett Kuch, Barbara (Brandon) Saft, Victoria (Darrell) Feuerhahn, Katherine (Julio) Escobar, Russell Kuch, and Jarrett Strate-Lutzow; great grandchildren, Dylan, Madelynn, Ava, Brooklyn, Ariya, Murphy, Brooklyn, Nixon, Harley, Kiera, Darby, Noah, Graciee, Nevaeh, Aleena and Julio.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth; sisters Una Brown, Hilma Keator, Clarice Hultgren; brother Donald Hills; Son In-Law, Bradley Kuch.

The Funeral service with Live streaming will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL, with Rev. Pam Rossmiller officiating. The visitation for Joan will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given in care of the family.
