Poplar Grove, IL

Jean A. Mathison, 93, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 15, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Hale) Mundy. Jean married the love of her life, LeRoy F. Mathison on May 12, 1943 in Rockford, IL. Together they owned and operated Mathison's Mobil and Jean's Coffee Shop. Jean was a devoted member of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, where she was involved in many of the women's organizations. She was a past 4-H Leader and was a part of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Capron. Jean adored being with her family. She enjoyed baking, reading, crocheting and traveling.

Jean is loved and missed by her children, Karen (Scott Taylor) Mathison, Gayle (Russ) Yerk, Dale (Kay) Mathison, and Susan (Jeff) Griffis; son-in-law, Bob (Diane) Boyd; grandchildren, Jeremy Ulferts, Kristina Barrera, Marcy Johnson, Jacob Mathison, Brandon Mathison, and Mitchel Griffis; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle Carlson, Gerald Mundy, Steven (Leona) Mundy, and Judith (David) Noe; sister-in-law, Betty Mundy and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy, daughter, Barbara Boyd, grandson, Scott Boardman, siblings, John Mundy, Ruth Knott, and Kenneth Mundy; and sister-in-law, Gladys Mundy.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, 105 East Grove Street, Poplar Grove, IL 61065 with Rev. Doug Carroll officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at the church. Burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
