Jarrett "Jerry" Elwood Cunningham of Schaumburg passed away at home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. He was 85. Born on December 25, 1937, he shared a Christmas birthday with his father, Lester Cunningham, who was married to Hazel (Smith) Cunningham, Jerry's mother. Jerry married Dorothy Curran on a very hot August 15, 1970. They had one daughter, Annette. Jerry graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Education and his first teaching job was at Orangeville High School. He taught there for three years while coaching three different sports. He continued to teach Physical Education and Driver's Education, also while coaching, at James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, for 33 years. His coaching duties at Conant included Boys' Basketball, Girls' Softball, and Varsity Girls' Basketball. After retirement in 2002, he drove a bus for High School District 211 for ten years. Jerry's knowledge and dedication made him the perfect fit for officiating games of football, basketball, and softball. When it was time to put his feet up and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation, you could find him in the family room with game shows or a multitude of different sports on the screen. He found a wonderful community at Our Saviour's United Methodist Church in Schaumburg where he was a member and loved to vacation and spend time with his church friends.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Annette; one brother, Charles (Romelle) Cunningham; sister-in-law, Anita Marsh; brothers- in-law, Duane (Barb), Gerald (Bonnie), Frank (Bessie), Gene (Sue), and Al (Mary Ann); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Robert Curran and David Marsh.

Visitation is on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and the funeral is on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 West Hurlbut Avenue in Belvidere, Illinois. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Our Saviour's United Methodist Church, 701 East Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg. All services will be officiated by Pastor David Lagos-Fonseca. We would like to say a special thanks to the physical therapist and visiting nurses who took extra special care of Jerry the last few months.
