Obituary

Janice Rae (Esmond) Winterroth passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 20, 2024, the morning before her 88th birthday, surrounded by her daughters and sons-in-law.


Jan was born January 21, 1936 in Harvard, Illinois to parents Raymond and Darlene (Behrens) Esmond. She lived her childhood years in Chemung, attending a one room schoolhouse.

She attended Harvard High School and went on to graduate from Illinois State University.  In 1965 the family moved to Belvidere, IL where Jan enjoyed a 30 year career in the banking industry, retiring as Assistant VP of Alpine Bank.


Jan met Frederick 'Fritz' Winterroth during her time at Illinois State University. They were married on July 27, 1957, and together they shared 44 loving years of marriage. The two were blessed with three wonderful children.


Jan was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was an active volunteer and dedicated her time to numerous church organizations, including the Ladies Guild and Helping Hands.


She valued her many life-long friendships, volunteering for her church and community, and above all, spending time with her family.


Jan is survived by her two daughters, Julie (Larry) Fisher of Roselle and Sharon (Dennis) Flanagan of Belvidere; five grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Fisher of Barrington, Drew (Sheila) Fisher of Cary, Taylor Flanagan of Franklin, WI, Haley (Josh) Kraus of Long Grove, and Courtney Flanagan of Columbia, MO; five great-grandsons; sister Carol (Bell) Aubrecht of Belvidere, nephews; Steve, David, Ron and their families. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband and son Scott.


Jan's visitation will be Friday, January 26th between the hours of 9:30 am and 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Located at 1045 Belvidere Rd, Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral service to follow at 11am, and burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in memory of Jan.
