James Harold Schwedersky, 69, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13th, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona, with lifelong friend and wife of 50 years at his side, Dona Schwedersky. Jim was born July 13th, 1946 in Belvidere, and married Dona Eckhardt on Augsut 14th, 1965. He was the son of Harold and Helen Schwedersky. He attended Belvidere High School and graduated in 1964. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years. He served as Post Master in Belvidere for 22 years before retiring in 2001. In 1996, Jim was named Post Master of the Year for the state of Illinois. Jim was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, serving as deacon, elder and many other church offices. Jim enjoyed wintering in Arizona and was an avid Cubs fan. He also loved watching and supporting his grandchildren in whatever activities they were doing. He loved to golf, and played regularly with the same people. Jim was very active in the community and was active in many organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Dona and children, Kim (Ken) Dovenmuehle, and Scott Schwedersky; grandchildren, Kyle and Katlyn Dovenmuehle, Shelby, Gwen, and Brooke Schwedersky and Delaney and Mary Ellen Wagener; mother, Helen Schwedersky; and sisters, Connie (Jack) Capatani, Sue (Mark) Inman, and Sandi (Jerry) Carlson, and may other extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold, and in-laws, Elmer and Gladys Eckhardt.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 20th, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008, and from 10:00 a.m., to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 21st, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Garden of Memories following the service. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. To light a candle or share a condolence, please visit www.AndersonFCS.com.
